Vision – To achieve a high-level academic and educational aims by providing a sound educational thought in accordance with the tenets and provisions of Islam and to prepare specialized researchers who will chart the course in using knowledge to advance, promote and serve humanity in the field of Foundations Education at doctorate levels respectively.

Mission – To provide a holistic education using modern means and methods in educating the knowledge-seekers and enable them to participate actively in educational consulting services to contribute to the development of society and human civilization.

Objective

The objective of this programme is to educate and train learners to become graduates who are scholar-educators able to:

PO1) grow and become accomplished and experienced educational foundation professionals able to make judgments of relevant theories and practices and be capable of producing new and relevant knowledge through research;
PO2) synthesize and evaluate professional knowledge and practice and apply such knowledge to solve significant problems;
PO3) initiate and innovate independent projects and research activities for the purpose of building and applying knowledge for the benefit of the local community, national society and the global community;
PO4) participate in scholarly discourses and disseminate knowledge through publications and journals and other means of knowledge dissemination in the academic and non-academic world;
PO5) develop expertise in teaching, coaching and mentoring and build credibility to become role models in appropriate educational contexts.

Learning Outcomes

LO1. Demonstrate systematic comprehension and in-depth understanding of foundation of education;
LO2. Demonstrate the capability as researcher, and, the skills to supervise research projects in foundation of education;
LO3. Critically analyse, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas
LO4. Demonstrate critical, creative and analytical thinking, and effective problem-solving
LO5. Broaden the boundary of knowledge through in depth thesis exposition of a field and knowledge generation in the field of foundation of education; methodological issues to improve the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process.
LO6. Communicate mature knowledge to peers, scholarly communities and society at large through publications and other academic media;
LO7. demonstrate the capacity to understand and advance educational thought in multidisciplinary ways;
LO8. Develop capacity to contribute meaningfully to development beyond the education sector;

Entry Requirements 

  1. A Master’s degree in Education from a recognized university OR a Master’s degree in any other relevant field (the candidate will be required to undertake some pre-requisite subjects).
  2. If deemed necessary, an applicant may be interviewed and/or required to sit for entrance exams in order to determine his fit for admission into this programme.
  3. The faculty may, with the approval of the University Academic Council (UAC), require the applicant to satisfy some additional conditions for admission into this programme.
  4. APEL entry is for applicants who are more than 30 years old with a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the relevant field and Passed the Certificate of Higher Education Malaysia (STPM) / Diploma / equivalent qualification.

English Language:

Since the medium of instruction for this program is English, all applicants must meet the English language requirement before being admitted into the programme. Examples include:

  1. Having English as their native language.
  2. Substantially worked or studied in an English-speaking country (such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States).
  3. English language proficiency exam with a minimum overall band score of 550 in TOEFL or 5.5 in IELTS.
  4. A minimum overall band score of 4.00 in MEDIU’s English Language Placement Test (MUET).
  5. Any other relevant qualification, which is equivalent to the set standard by the Senate of the University.

The applicant is required to study a subject named Research Methodology, then the applicant can start the research under the supervision of an academic member of the Postgraduate Studies Department.
